Devon Hanley Trio

Devon Hanley Trio is a band made up of Devon Hanley on piano and vocals, Walter Martella on piano, trumpet and accordion, and Dan Tratham on bass.

Hanley and Martella have been putting their talents together for 15 years delivering jazz, blues and popular standards to Sunshine Coast audiences.

Devon Hanley studied classical piano and voice and used her skills to launch her career in popular music in the Vancouver lounge scene, and performed at folk and jaz festivals. It was after her move to Powell River in 2006 when she began to record her own music. Devon has performed at the Sunshine Coast Music Festival on three occasions and made an appearance with Walter Martella at the 2018 Powell River Jazz Festival. Devon has three CDs which you can check out at devonhanley.ca.

In addition to holding down duties as Musical Director of the Powell River Academy of Music as well as Kathaumix International Choral Festival, Walter Martella is an accomplished pianist, accordionist and trumpeter. He earned a Diploma in Jazz Trumpet from Malaspina College (VIU), a Bachelor of Music degree from University of Victoria, and attended the Banff School of Fine Arts. Martella has recorded five jazz CDs, performed provincially with many well-known musicians in multiple genres, and continues to be in demand as a trumpet soloist and jazz pianist. Recently, he co-founded the Powell River Accordion Festival. https://www.waltermartella.com/

Dan Tatham got his start in a marching band, finally giving up the bagpipes at the age of 17. Tatham has since taken up the harmonium, violin and double bass. During university he was a memeber of an Ottawa bluegrass band that is still going strong.
