Joanna “Jobird” Finch is a multi instrumentalist, folk- cabaret singer from Vancouver Island. She embodies everything musical and expresses it through her voice and movements. She’s a prolific and expansive songwriter who moves fluidly and humorously through genres and eras, expressing love of all living things. Her voice is bird like: sweet and high; soulful jazzy: soft and sultry, and uniquely adaptable to sounds of nature. Her vocal cornet is unbelievable.
She’s been performing since she was eight and has recently returned from a Holistic Centre in China where she recorded two albums in 2018. Joanna’s approach to blues is influenced by early jazz, with world music/roots adding colour to her catchy and rhythmic tunes. A prolific poetic songwriter, “Jobird” has written well over 300 songs in her songwriting career. Her passionate commitment to communication through song is evident in the variety of themes she covers.
She is delighted to be sharing her music with her Canadian audiences after a six year travelling sabbatical that took her to Ecuador, Antigua, Cuba and China. For this summer tour she is so happy to be supported by her good friends the “Leeways,” Brodie Lee Dawson on guitars, percussion and vocal harmonies and Tracy Lee Canil on bass, flute, percussion and vocals.
Joanna’s recent recordings are under contract and will be released in 2020. Some of her earlier music is at www.joannafinch.com
